Business Advice From a Guy Who Built a Multi-National Corporation Selling Garbage

The following advice from Terracyle founder and CEO, Tom Szaky is a pretty concise manual on how to start a business, get funding, and grow it. Told in under three and a half minutes!

Kevin O’Leary and his comrades on Shark Tank wouldn’t like this guy, would they?

Szaky basically states that “venture capitalists” are basically sharks (ha, ha!) and will steal your money.

All joking aside though: what he was saying about angel investors not being very hard to find should ring home true to all of us. If an idea’s worth building a business on, there’s likely hundreds of them all around you who’re willing to help you get the ball rolling with a cash infusion to your new or existing business.

The start of the video offers some solid advice about entering business plan contests to teach yourself how to pitch and refine your ideas, and perhaps make some extra startup capital as a bonus if you win. If you’re interested in that idea, simply Google “business plan contest”. There’s tons of them going on out there.
