A Startup Generates Electricity from Living Plants

As the world is in an energy crisis – with some sources will perish in a few decades – new sources are in dire need.

One startup from the Netherlands, Plant-e, is trying to answer the need by developing a new source of energy that is renewable and sustainable. Sounds great, and many startups have tried doing so, too – solar, wind and hydro energy.

Plant-e joins startups that attempt to answer a global energy crisis, as well as a specific problem that is practically unresolved – for years: There are 1.4 billion people who live in some regions of the world without any electricity.

Sounds great. But why is Plant-e different? The difference is in the source of energy – it’s coming from an unlikely source: Living plants.

Here’s how it works:

How plant-e works

And here’s how Plant-e can change things:

I don’t know about you, but I think this is THE energy source of the future. Green, renewable, and sustainable. Just take care of your plants and they will take care of your energy consumption.

So, how much energy do the plants create? A rooftop can fulfil 50 percent of a household’s electricity need. Think about it.

What do you think? Will it be THE energy of the future?
