Millennials and Information Overload Syndrome: Reduce Input, Increase Your Productivity

This is some of the best advice I’ve ever heard uttered about the millennial generation and the innumerable forces that are holding you back in the information era:

So what do you think millennials, is information overload the real problem here?

Personally, I’m just shy of the millennial era; a Gen X’er. However, I’ve noted just how much life has sped up since I first graduated college back in the late 90’s. Most of the information that’s offered for free online nowadays was stuff you had to pay for just over a decade ago.

Also computers and the Internet are getting faster and faster. You don’t have to wait 5 minutes for a page to load. You can download hundreds of books, magazines, podcasts, etc. on to a phone that’s the size of a small calculator.

By the way, does anyone even use calculators anymore? Maybe you, as a millennial have vague memories of these devices from your days in elementary school! I only mean that partially in a tongue-and-cheek manner.

Social media…

How many followers do you have? How many people do you follow?

All that and the timeless practice of everyone and their grandmother dishing out facts, rumors, innuendos, and opinions about everything from the state of the government, what it takes to get a good job in the 21st century, and the secret to finding true love…

I hope you took solace in Grant’s opinion about it not being entirely your fault that you find it hard to focus. Do as he suggests and reduce your input — narrow down your information input to just a few content sources, focus on one or two things that work for you — then commit to them and do them over and over.

Simple right?
