‘How to’ of the Month: DIY Budget PC Build Off (AMD vs Intel!)

The following DIY budget PC build off vids from the staff at GameSpot are inspired by the notion of replacing your expensive XBox One or PS4 with a less expensive DIY gaming rig.

However, I think this is must-watch material for anyone looking to build their own home or office PC.

AMD or Intel? This should always be the pregunta numero uno when it comes time to build your own PC.

First AMD:

Now Intel:

How embarrassed are you right now if you’re working in the game dev wing of Microsoft or Sony? These budget rigs both blew each of the popular modern consoles out of the water — on the cheap!

I definitely have to recommend going with an SSD (Solid State Drive) for the hard drive. Most computer stores will sell you a 128gb for less than $60, and I’ve seen 250gb Crucial drives for less than $100 on sale in many places. SSD’s cut your boot time down to a few seconds and the write speed’s just ridiculous over what a spin drive offers. I currently load my OS on a small 128gb SSD, then use a series of 500gb spin drives (WD Black) for storing movies, music and such. Works great!

If gaming isn’t your main focus, you could easily cut the cost down on these builds by opting for a cheaper scaled back NVIDIA graphics card for around $60. Still great for work-related tasks (unless you’re a game developer or graphic designer) and watching movies.

Share your preference, AMD or Intel in the comments.

I’m partial to AMD for the price savings, but of course they do still under-perform next to the i5/i7 chipsets from Intel.

Don’t forget to share these vids with any of your friends who’re considering a PC DIY.
