Business Blunders That Led to Billions for Some and Financial Ruin for Others

Business Blunders That Led to Billions for Some and Financial Ruin for Others

Did you know that Excite had a chance to buy Google ($60b annual earnings), the second richest brand on the planet, for $750k back in the 90’s?

In fact, have you ever heard of Excite at all? Probably not, and that’s what makes this video so interesting.

I had no idea that Blockbuster (another company that will fade off into history in the coming decades) was approached by Netflix with a purchase offer back in the early 2000’s. I’ll bet Reed Hastings smiled just a little when the last Blockbuster closed in Hawaii nearly a year ago (see more).

Just as interesting is the Atari/Apple story. Jobs and Wozniack wanted to work for Atari, and Atari said no? Atari has been absorbed by other company’s ten times over at this point and time, and most of the younger generation wouldn’t have a clue who they are, if you asked.

There’s plenty of other great stories told in this vid. What was your favorite?
