Jim Carrey: “You Might As Well Take the Chance at Doing Something You Love”

Here’s a short excerpt from Jim Carrey’s commencement speech at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa.

He and so many other celebrities are the ultimate example of how to successfully cultivate and expand a brand aren’t they – who doesn’t know why Jim Carrey is in 2014?

I love the story about how Jim wrote himself a check for 10 million bucks in the early nineties (presumably while he was still performing on “In Living Color”) and vowed that he’d be able to “cash” it in a few years time. He failed, but was already a fast-rising star by the time that goal wasn’t met and had just signed a $10-million dollar deal to do “Dumb and Dumber”. Crazy!

Cool Quotes from Carrey:

  • “You can spend all your life imagining ghosts, worrying about the pathway to the future, but all there will ever be is what’s happening here.”
  • “You can fail at doing what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance at doing what you love.”
